Consultancy

S&S Yawls:

This office has now been involved with the restoration of two of these wonderful yachts.

Argyll, S&S design no. 628, was built by Simms Bros. in 1946. At nearly 58' LOA, this is a powerful and imposing yacht.

BYD became involved shortly after a transfer of ownership when the rebuild of the vessel's hull and deck structures was complete. After exploring various options, it was decided to rebuild the interior with the same basic configuration as original, but with a few adjustments to bring the layout more in line with modern expectations. The style of the interior and the timbers used are as close to original as possible - this work as well as the installation of systems and deck gear has been beautifully carried out by MB Yachts Ltd.

New rig fittings have been designed and made, with the rig and deck layout more or less as original. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this work has been piecing together old gear that came with the yacht and reusing as much of this as possible.

See also the new interiors page for more pictures.

This office has been deeply involved with the management and coordination of this project, helping the yacht's owner towards a successful outcome. Argyll is currently based in the South of France.

Argyll is currently for sale, and can offer a prospective owner enjoyable cruising as well as participation in what is a highly active and enjoyable racing circuit. Please contact this office for more details.

Cometa (originally Comet), is S&S design no. 577. Built in the same year as Argyll, she is slightly smaller at 53' LOA.

BYD was involved with adjustments to the interior layout of the boat, as well as the detail design of new spars and rig fittings and the re-use of original gear.

Cometa was re-launched by Olin Stephens in the spring of 2004 and since then has competed with considerable success on the CIM racing circuit in the Med.

She has now changed hands, a survey finding no faults after four seasons of hard racing. We look forward to continued involvement with Cometa in the future.
