New Rigs:
Burnett Yacht Design can draw on a wealth of experience in the design, construction and handling of traditional rigs. This is backed up by a thorough and modern understanding of the engineering aspects which are relevant to any rig.
Our involvement can range from consultation over a minor detail to the full design and analysis of a complete new rig.
Berenice
A complete new rig, including detailed design of fittings, was developed for this 80' yacht. The new design is based on the original (1926) sail plan, however concessions are made to the small crew which must handle this rig while the yacht is on charter.
Melmore
The sailplan for this beautifully restored ketch was drawn up to help coordinate the efforts of sailmakers and riggers.
A new rig for a newly built cutter in Devon U.K.
A more modern gaff rig for a 22' day sailer and racer in Falmouth
This rig gives the boat's sailmaker owner an opportunity to use modern sail laminates to enhance the performance of the boat in the active local gaffers class.
The good design of spars and rig fittings is fundamental to the safe and effective function of a rig. They can also make an important contribution to the aesthetics of the yacht.
New spars and fittings were designed for Varen to replace her existing Aluminium rig. The spars were built by Collars, with the fittings being fabricated by Hercules CSMD in Dartmouth.
